Gears of War: E-Day is out now. It released on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 with a single simultaneous worldwide unlock — no midnight-rolling time zones. This page records the launch facts that stay true after the date passes: when it unlocked in your region, how big the download was, and what was playable at minute one. (The five-day head start some players had is covered in our early access page.)

What shipped on day one?
Everything except Ranked:
- Full campaign — Prologue + 5 Acts + Epilogue, playable solo or in 4-player online co-op (plus 2-player console split-screen). Our walkthrough hub maps all 26 chapters.
- Horde Siege — the new 12-player, three-squad wave-defense mode.
- Versus Social — 4v4 with Team Deathmatch, Conquest, Demolition, and the new Crucible mode across five launch maps.
- Season 1 “Emergence” — an eight-week season of events starting launch day.
Only the Ranked Versus ladder was staggered, opening October 13, 2026 with a Bronze-to-Legend ladder.
What is E-Day, story-wise?
The title refers to Emergence Day — the moment the Locust Horde erupted from tunnels beneath the planet Sera. The game is a prequel set 14 years before the original 2006 Gears of War, opening six weeks after the 79-year Pendulum Wars ended, and its campaign spans the first three days of the invasion in the industrial city of Kalona. It’s the seventh main installment — a new game, not a remake — from The Coalition with People Can Fly co-developing. Start with our beginner tips if the eruption night is still ahead of you.
