How to Beat the Corpser in Gears of War: E-Day (Both Fights)

Full Corpser guide — bait its lunge into support pillars, clear the Wretch and Ticker adds, survive the roof-collapse finale, and win the later rematch.

The Corpser is E-Day’s tunnel guardian, and the game is honest about its design: you don’t out-DPS it, you out-think it. The first fight arrives in Act 3 Chapter 2, “Enemy Lines,” in the tunnels on the way to Cooper Station — the darkest stretch of the campaign’s day three. A shorter rematch waits later in the campaign. If you’re mapping the whole run, the walkthrough hub places both fights inside the act structure.

Where is the first Corpser fight?

Act 3, Chapter 2 — “Enemy Lines.” The chapter runs through the tunnels toward Cooper Station, which matters for completionists: this is the chapter hiding the missable “Take the Express” Secondary Objective (one of the four that feed the Side Piece achievement — full list in the achievements guide). Sweep the side objective before triggering the boss arena if you’re doing a clean one-pass run.

How do you beat the first Corpser fight?

The core loop is bait the lunge into the pillars:

  1. Stand near a support pillar and let the Corpser target you.
  2. When it commits to the lunge, dodge clear — the pillar takes the hit, and falling debris damages the Corpser.
  3. Repeat. Between lunges, it advances behind a screen of Wretch and Ticker adds — clear them so they can’t swarm you mid-bait.
  4. The final phase shifts the arena: the fight ends under a roof collapse. Stay mobile, keep the pillar rhythm going, and let the ceiling finish what the debris started.

The movement tools E-Day gives you (slide-dodges, free jumping — see beginner tips) make the bait-and-dodge loop forgiving on Normal; on Hardcore the recovery windows shrink, so commit later, not earlier.

How do you beat the Corpser rematch?

The rematch is shorter and meaner — same creature, less patience:

  • Keep your distance. The rematch rewards ranged pressure over pillar play.
  • Dodge before its long reloads. The Corpser telegraphs heavy attacks with long recovery animations; the safe window is during the reload, not after the hit.
  • Spend heavy weapons (Torque Bow, Gut-Puncher) during those windows — tier reasoning is in the weapons guide.

How does the Corpser compare to E-Day’s other bosses?

The Corpser is the campaign’s “learn the language” boss — environmental damage, adds, telegraphed lunges. The Brumak fights that bookend the campaign are pure DPS checks with armor rules, and the finale against Svore Vraahk is the pressure test that combines everything: cover destruction, charges, and repositioning under fire.

FAQ

Which chapter is the Corpser fight in?

Act 3, Chapter 2 — “Enemy Lines,” in the tunnels toward Cooper Station. A shorter rematch comes later in the campaign.

How do you damage the Corpser?

Its own lunges: bait them into support pillars so falling debris crushes it. Direct fire only chips it while it advances — the pillars are the damage source.

Is the Take the Express side objective missable?

Yes — “Take the Express” lives in the same chapter (Act 3 Ch 2) and is one of four missable Secondary Objectives for the Side Piece achievement. Chapter select can recover it after the credits.

What kills the adds fastest in the tunnel fight?

Explosives — Tickers return their own explosive for the “Right in the Ticker” achievement, and a Gut-Puncher round handles Wretch clusters. The Bilefrog achievement (“Explosive Indigestion”) uses the same logic.
