How to Beat Every Brumak Fight in Gears of War: E-Day

Every Brumak fight explained — unarmored City Hall, the armored weaponized Brumak at Fort Vigil, and the evacuation-push chase — plus the right loadout for each.

The Brumak is E-Day’s recurring colossus — and the game uses it as a measuring stick, escalating the same creature across the campaign’s three days. You’ll fight it at least three times: unarmored in Act 1’s City Hall defense, armored and weaponized at Fort Vigil, and unarmored again during the evacuation push. Each fight has different rules. The full campaign placement of every encounter is in the walkthrough hub.

Brumak fight 1: City Hall defense (Act 1, Chapter 4)

The first Brumak arrives during “Back in the Fold,” defending City Hall — and the good news is it’s unarmored: everything damages it normally. The fight’s real resource is the Gut-Puncher:

  • Stock Gut-Puncher ammo before the fight starts. The arena’s prior stretch is your last supply point; if you arrive empty, the fight triples in length.
  • Rotate cover constantly. The Brumak’s staggered fire punishes static positions; E-Day’s degrading cover makes the rotation mandatory, not optional.
  • Clear adds between damage windows. The drone screen is the actual killer — the beginner tips priority-target rules apply.
  • The Gut-Puncher’s bounce-and-detonate rounds are the highest sustained damage you’ll have; the weapons tier list explains why it out-punches the Boomshot here.

Brumak fight 2: the weaponized Brumak at Fort Vigil

The Fort Vigil assault upgrades the creature — armored, weaponized, and carrying a launcher plus a mounted gun. The fight has a strict sequence:

  1. Resupply at the Supply Cache first. The fight is tuned around full heavy ammo; skipping the cache is the most common wipe.
  2. Take the elevated position. Height is what makes the armor phase workable.
  3. Break the armor plating with sustained heavy fire.
  4. Then, in order: destroy the launcher, destroy the mounted gun, kill the Brumak. Fighting the hull before the weapons are down is how squads lose their cover — and then everything else.

Brumak fight 3: the evacuation push

The third encounter arrives mid-evacuation, and it drops the armor sequence entirely: no plating phase, just a Brumak chasing a retreating squad. The rules invert from fight two:

  • Create space first, damage second. The Brumak’s job here is to cut off the escape route; letting it close distance ends the run.
  • Reposition before it forces you to. Pre-move to the next cover cluster instead of reacting to the charge.
  • Spend heavy rounds freely — after Fort Vigil, this is the last big damage check before the finale against Svore Vraahk.

Loadout for Brumak fights

Slot Pick Why
Heavy Gut-Puncher Bouncing manual-detonation rounds are the best sustained boss damage
Primary Lancer (Prototype when available) Steady chip damage during add windows
Explosive Torque Bow or Boomshot Burst damage during stagger phases
Tactical Pulse Drone Marks weak points and incoming adds in the smoke

Achievement hunters, note: the “Two Grubs, One Gut-Punch” double-kill is easiest on the add screens these fights spawn — full list in the achievements guide. The campaign’s other heavy fights are the Corpser pair in the tunnels.

FAQ

How many Brumak fights are in E-Day?

Three main encounters — Act 1’s City Hall defense, the weaponized Brumak at Fort Vigil, and the evacuation-push Brumak — with the encounter list also naming a second unarmored push during the evacuation sequence.

Do you fight an armored Brumak in E-Day?

Yes — the Fort Vigil variant is armored and weaponized. Break the plating from an elevated position, then destroy the launcher and mounted gun before finishing the hull.

Why is the Gut-Puncher so important against Brumaks?

Its hold-and-release manual detonation deals sustained boss damage, and the first fight is specifically tuned around stockpiling its ammo before City Hall.

What's the hardest Brumak fight?

Fort Vigil. The armor plating gates your damage until it’s broken, and the launcher plus mounted gun punish static play — resupply at the Supply Cache before engaging.
